Maps with MTB-compatible (classified) routes (Author: Ray)
This time only the MTB: scale paths are included. Ray no longer has to pack POIs, as they are included in Compe's OSM maps. As a result, the Maps have also become a little smaller.
These maps are intended to complement a RMAP (or VMAP) classified MTB-enabled) pathways. As a kind of overlay.
The following countries are covered:
Germany, France, Spain + Andorra, Italy, Switzerland + Liechtenstein, Austria and new Slovenia.
The colors of the paths have the following meaning:
S0 lime
(easy, suitable for touring riders)
|
S3 dark green
(for Enduro riders)
|
S6 dark purple
(impassable) |
S1 cyan
(medium, suitable for touring riders) |
S4 dark green
(et al Trial techniques needed) |
|
S2 red
(heavy, suitable for touring riders) |
S5 violet
(for absolute cracks) |
|
Explanation of the classification, see (only german) www.singletrail-skala.de and
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/DE:Key:mtb:scale
What's new is that I also created a hiking training map from OSM for the above mentioned countries. This is based on the day sac_scale, which is based on the hiking classification of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC).
The colors of the paths have the following meaning:
T1 lime
(hike)
|
T3 red
(Experienced mountain hiker)
|
T5 dark blue
(Challenging alpine hiking) |
T2 cyan
(Hiking) |
T4 dark green
(Alpin hiking) |
T6 violet
(Difficult alpine hiking) |
Explanation of the classification, see (only german) http://www.sac-cas.ch/unterwegs/schw...ts-skalen.html and there the document Mountain and alpine hiking scale and http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/DE:Key:mtb:scale
Current 24Q3: Routable maps from OSM for the following areas
The maps are on Ray's server and can be downloaded from there! More cards to come!
Canary OSM hiking and MTB map
Ray has again created an update of the Canary Islands map.
This time he has managed to create a routable map.
In addition to the topo map (routable), there is as before a MTB and hiking classification as a separate map. Ray has also created a map with marked trails. Again, the colors of the paths have the following meaning:
Canary_mtb
S0 green
S1 cyan
|
S2 red
S3 violet
|
S4 orange
S5 yellow with dark blue border |
Canary_sac
T0 green
T1 cyan
|
T2 red
T3 violet
|
T4 orange
T5 yellow with dark green margin |
Canary_Topo
The normal topo map of the Canary Islands (without hiking and MTB classification).
This map is routable! |

When zooming out, you can only see the edge of the rating, making it easier to grasp classified paths. Inside the classification you always see the type of route. Most are paths but also sometimes slopes.
The following example shows green S0 slopes (who actually grades slopes?), Which can be recognized by the white interior. Green SO paths (brown line in the middle), S1 paths and slopes (cyan), red S2 paths and purple S3 paths. The classifications have been recorded in OSM.

OSM knows 4 classes of hiking markings:
lwm - local hiking markings
rwm - regional hiking markings
nwm - national hiking markings
iwm - international hiking markings
Still about statistics:
80% more routes were classified as mtb: scale
35% more trails classified as sac_scale (but still 40% more hiking ratings than MTB ratings)
And the total data volume of the Canaries in OSM has even increased by 170%!
